We have to say… we predicted it. We knew that when you get two “characters” together, there’s no end to the fun you can have.
And that was certainly the case at the Bose/Reid
Shepherd Hills Tour in Nashville, Saturday, May 17, 2008, It was a great time for both the knife collectors and the honorees as well.
Tony Bose, world renowned custom knife maker, and Ida Reid, President & Founder of Shepherd Hills Cutlery were the two “characters” on hand at this special event which featured a 100 piece limited run of Bose/Reid Small Saddlehorns (TB62110 SS) and they did not disappoint.
Both Tony and Ida are naturals when it comes to telling stories, and it’s enjoyable just to listen to them spin a tale. It’s entertaining for sure, but you can also learn a lot! One of the comments that Tony made was he learned a long time ago that “one of the smartest things a man can know, is that he doesn’t know…” referring to the value of being able to admit that no matter how knowledgeable a person becomes in an area there’s always something else he can learn.
We heard all kinds of things being shared from Tony once sawing through his wife’s kitchen table in his early days of knife making to Ida’s beginning in business back in the 70’s on Route 66.
And then there was that story from Bose about trading a knife for pizza. (SHCC members can see exclusive video footage of Tony relating this experience on the SHCC page.)
As is always the case, they (Tony & Ida) learned as much from the collectors as the collectors learned from them. That’s the beauty of this rare opportunity—a chance to exchange thoughts and ideas, as well as personal stories in a casual, but informative and very entertaining conversation with two well known leaders in the Case knife world.
The Bose/Reid Saddlehorn, offered at this event, is what is known as a “Magicians” knife , in that it was Caramel Bone on the Bose side, and Natural Bone on the Reid side.
Each side had the laser engraved signature of either Tony or Ida, and as we mentioned before there were only 100 pieces produced. A complete sellout, Case knife enthusiasts commented several times, that it was even “prettier” in person. A very handsome knife, indeed. And realizing that Tony Bose was the one who collaborated with Case on this pattern (thus the TB in the pattern number), just made it all the sweeter. A certificate of authenticity was provided which Tony and Ida autographed on the spot for
Case collectors.

Each attended had opportunity to enter the Grand Prize Drawing and get a close up look at the Grand Prize knife…we’ll talk more about that here in just a bit, so keep reading.

New for 2008 Case XX knives that had just arrived were available for purchase, including several Shepherd Hills exclusives that have not yet been offered in a catalog or online for sale…so attendees at the Bose/Reid tour were the first to
get one of these for their collection.
Another popular section of the event was the table with the Case XX Show Specials…..offering many different patterns/handles at a special price good during the show only.
So you can see, there was lots to keep a Case knife enthusiast busy and that doesn’t even include the Case XX prototypes of the new Shepherd Hills Exclusive handle material that will soon be offered.
What is the new handle material that Shepherd Hills will soon be offering ?
Hmmm... not supposed to tell.
Watch for an announcement towards the end of the summer or come to the President’s Tour in Branson, August 9th, where Tony Bose will be appearing with Tom Arrowsmith, President and CEO of W.R. Case Cutlery and there you can see the new Shepherd Hills handle material for yourself.
And finally, a definite highlight of the Bose/Reid Shepherd Hills Tour was the drawing of the winner of the limited edition of ONE Genuine Mother of Pearl Bose/Reid Saddlehorn.
As you can see from the photos, anticipation filled the air as the winning entry was drawn out…. Whooping and hollering like any of us would have, Terry Sims was the lucky guy who walked away with this treasure of a knife…
a one of a kind.
You just don’t often have a chance at a one of a kind Case XX……pure icing on the cake
for a great day filled with lots of Case knife talk, good times and great fun !

All of us at Shepherd Hills, and especially the Nashville Staff, and Tony and Ida would like to say thanks to all who made this the special day it was.
We hope you all had as good a time as we did !
